The Pathfinder

In a fight against crime, police forces and governments are increasingly using security cameras in public places. Some people are opposed to this, saying it invades their privacy. What do you think?

The ubiquitous development of surveillance cameras around the globe has put everything on record and these prove to be highly helpful in resolving the heinous crimes being occurred in our surroundings. However, a wide section of society disapproves the usage of camera footage as it considers it to be an attack on their privacy. I particularly do not find any objectionable reason in using closed-circuit television footage which can help in reducing the crime rate.

At the outset, it can be taken into consideration that close circuit camera footage can be used as strong evidence to identify the culprits in case of any criminal activity. Moving further, shopping malls, banks and other public places install these devices so that no one gets the courage to steal any object from their premises. Not only that these gadgets can be used at educational institutes also so that students do not get involved in evil practices like cheating in exams.

At the same time, another aspect can never be neglected that people’s privacy gets at stake as when they go to any place they may get recorded and some mis-happenings can be posted on internet without their knowledge. To exemplify, there is an abundance of footages on internet which are manipulated by persons in authority to defame others which is quite unacceptable for a developed society.

While reiterating, it can be concluded that security cameras are definitely required for having record of misconduct of evil doers but governments must make stringent laws against the usage of any footage without permission.
