Describe something important that you learnt from a foreign culture

Describe an interesting thing you have learned from a foreign culture.

You should say:

What it is

How you learnt it

Why you learnt it

and explain how you think it will help others.

To be honest, I have keen interest in learning varied things from diverse cultures and I believe that my outlook towards life has also developed from this fact. Here, I would like to mention that the most fascinating thing in foreign culture is to be independent. Although my home country is enriched with infinite moral values but western culture teaches children to take their decisions wisely rather than depending on parents or other elders. In my school, I had been working in cross-cultural programmes where I got numerous chances to meet and interact with people of different cultures. Through the foreign delegates, I got to know that in the western countries, parents give immense liberty to their offspring to look at pros and cons of making any kind of decision. I also know that sometimes decision making is a hard nut to crack but frankly speaking we need some freedom only then we can excel in the realms of professional spheres. As an adolescent, I firmly believe that it was need of the hour to learn such a valuable skill because now I am at my career building stage and I don’t want to look at other people before reaching at any verdict because ultimately it’s me who is going to take all the burden of my own choices.

Part-3 Follow Up Questions

How do you learn about celebrations that are related to your culture?

I must say there are plenty of ways to learn about it and most of the times I learn it from my grandparents as they keep on telling me about the rituals and customs that are related to miscellaneous events.

What do you think are common celebrations all over the world?

In this era of globalisation, people are celebrating festivals without any hindrance of cultures so there are some festivals like Christmas, Diwali and Eid which are celebrated across the borders.

Do you think we should follow our culture and traditions and why?

Undoubtedly yes, I feel that if we don’t follow our customs then they will get extinct from this world which is not a positive sign because I feel that diversity of cultures makes this world more beautiful.

How do you react to spending a lot of money on celebrations?
In my viewpoint, we must keep things simple because rather than landing into debt we shall save our money for future endeavours. Apart from this, if someone has bundles of it, he or she can flaunt it.
